One of the events the class organized was their own Graduation Banquet held at Golf’s Steakhouse in Kitchener.
IMC program faculty were proud of 2011-2012 student Bethany Cawker who received the IABC/Toronto Student of the Year award on May 30 at the chapter’s annual Ovation Awards gala. (IABC – International Association of Business Communicators)
To win the award Bethany had to submit a media release on any subject that pertains to the communications field. Her release was titled “Consistency: The Key to Brand Resonance.” She also had to include a communications-related work sample (she used her brand analysis from her first semester client project for Janet and Greta), as well as her resume.
Bethany is pictured here with her volunteer supervisor Paulina Callaghan, ABC, at the awards event which was held at Liberty Grand in Toronto. Paulina is the Vice President, Membership at IABC, Toronto Chapter. She works for the Ontario Ministry of Finance as Manager, Strategic Communications.
Bethany was also interviewed by PR in Canada.
During the winter semester the students studied event management. As well as staging a couple of events themselves (an Easter bake sale and a floor hockey tournament which raised $150.00 for Easter Seals) they also pitched an event idea to Simon Dowrick, Consumer Shows and Events manager at Waterloo Region Record.
Before creating their plans, the students visited Hacienda Sarria, a Spanish-inspired event venue located in Kitchener. The unique venue inspired many ideas for exclusive events.
